Andris grew up in Cēsis and developed his passion for outdoor
recreation while working as a nature guide at the Gauja
National Park visitor center over 12 years ago. He wasn't just
leading tours — he was learning every forest path, every
seasonal change, every spot where the valley showed its best
self.
After completing his environmental management degree at Latvia
University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLŪT) in 2011,
he recognized something important. The forest guides were
talking about families, young hikers, adventure seekers. But
where were the trails for older adults? That gap became his
focus.
His breakthrough came in 2016 when he successfully redesigned
8 kilometers of forest trails in the Gauja Valley specifically
for mobility variations. He wasn't just smoothing paths — he
was adding rest areas with views, handrails on steep sections,
and gentle gradients that let people hike safely. The work got
noticed. Healthcare providers started asking his opinion.
Older adults started coming back, trail after trail.
Since joining tropicaldash Solutions Ltd in 2021, Andris has
authored over 40 detailed hiking guides and consulted with
physiotherapists to ensure his recommendations align with
medical best practices. He works directly with Cēsis Regional
Hospital's physiotherapy department, translating clinical
knowledge into practical trail advice.
Today, his approach combines 14 years of field experience with
evidence-based accessibility standards. He believes age
shouldn't limit outdoor exploration. That's what drives his
work.
